    error.log comes out as being most uninteresting. I've attached it and the
    config.log. I'm running x86 Slackware 8 Linux, kernel 2.6.10 SMP (I think
    config.log has most of this, too)

    uhm ... seems strange to me. Try to recompile mod-xslt specifing the
    --enable-debug to the configure script, and to send us the apache
    error.log ... which operative system/linux distribution are you using?
    Could you also post the configure.log?
